President?s Message
Season?s Greetings!
Another year has almost passed and I am finishing up my first year as President of the INSGNA. WOW! It has gone fast! It was my privilege to represent Indiana at the National SGNA Annual Course as a delegate to the House of Representatives in San Antonio, Texas this past year and I am looking forward to doing the same in Baltimore next year.
Looking back on the year, I am proud to report that through the hard work of our many volunteers, we have been able to offer some great educational opportunities. I enjoyed taking an active part in planning the Spring and Fall Conferences as well as the Multi-Regional Conference that was held in Louisville, Kentucky. Our goal is to provide as many GI specific topics as we can, but sometimes there is a lack of availability of speakers, or what we think will be GI specific does not fit CBGNA?s criteria. There are many talents and skills used in the GI setting that are basic nursing care that are very important for all nurses and techs to know, whether they are new to Endoscopy or have years of experience.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the Board of Directors who have worked hard to put all of these conferences together, making it possible to retain our charter to the National SGNA. They are:
President-elect- Dianna Burns
Secretary- Marge Schick
Treasurer- Lea Anne Myers
Past President/Historian- Susan Selking
Education Chairman- Jackie Crawford
Program Chairman- Debbie Saltzman
Scholarship Chairman- Marsha Miller
and Membership Chairman- Vicki Robinson.
I hope to see all of you in Indianapolis in March for the Spring Conference, but in the mean time, I would like to wish you Happy Holidays!
Sincerely,
Suzanne Buchanan, BSN, RN, CGRN
INSGNA President

Program Committee Report
I would like to thank everyone who took the time to make comments on the evaluation form at our last meeting. Many questions were asked about the topics that were not considered G.I. specific. CBGNA has many criteria that they use to decide what topics may be counted as G.I. specific. Though many departments do bronchoscopies for instance, this is not a G.I. specific topic. I feel it is our, INSGNA?s, obligation to maintain the education of all our members. We are committed to encourage our members to become certified and will continue to strive to offer at least 5-6 contact hours twice a year to our members. We will continue to try to offer as many G.I. specific hours as possible, but as new information becomes available, I am sure that we will have additional topics equally as important that do not meet the G.I. specific rule. That does not make the information any less valuable to our members. If you have suggestions for topics that you would like to see presented, please, contact me. Again, thanks for your involvement and concern about the quality of our meetings. Your comments are very important to us.
